Historic Old Town – The old town still has a traditional feel about it. It features in ITV’s ‘The Royal’ as the town of Elsinby. It has antique & specialist shops and many traditional pubs. The main feature of the Old Town is the 12^th Century Bridlington Priory. The Priory was once the largest and wealthiest in the county and was visited by many Kings and Queens. The Bayle Gatehouse Museum was built as the gateway to the Priory. THE HERITAGE COAST - walk on the cliff top or cycle down the coast all the time taking in the amazing scenery. The scenery is dramatically different - white craggy chalk cliffs with crashing waves pounding at their feet are interspersed by calm, sheltered coves. Caves, arches and stacks have been carved out of the cliffs by the constant pounding of the great North Sea, adding to the spectacle of this coastline, and bird reserves protect thousands of seabirds which nest along this stretch of coast.

Flamborough Castle was a medieval fortified manor house. Now only surrounded by earthworks, the three remaining walls of the tower stand to first floor level.

Flamborough Head is one of the most prominent features on the East Coast of England. Jutting out miles into the North Sea.

Danes Dyke consists of prehistoric earthworks and woodland that runs 2½ miles across Flamborough Head, from Catnab Cliff on the far north of the Headland to Danes Dyke beach on the south side.

North Landing a picturesque bay of great importance for its geology, flora, marine and bird communities. Very popular for many recreational activities, bathing, diving, canoeing, angling, walking, bird watching and boat trips. View its distinctive chalk cliffs which are sculpted into caves and stacks, which are a feature of the site.

South Landing The heritage trail goes along the side of the ravine, across a footbridge and along the other side of the ravine. This leads to a viewing point on the cliff top which gives magnificent views along the coastline and out to sea. There are steps near the viewing point which lead down to the beach where fossils can be found, some more common than others.

Selwicks Bay & The Lighthouse The Lighthouse sits on almost the most easterly tip of Flamborough Head. The lighthouse has excellent guided tours, unforgettable views and is a popular spot with birdwatchers. The bay it overlooks is known as Selwicks (or Silex) bay. The beach is sand / gravel and at low tide a long stretch of chalk platform is exposed containing lots of rock pools. On either side, caves, blowholes and wave cut platforms are exposed and present endless possibilities for exploring. Further back from the coast is the old Beacon light tower, dating from circa 1674, and the only known example in England.

Bempton Cliffs RSPB Reserve – Bempton Cliffs is the best place in England to see seabirds. More than 200,000 birds nest on the cliffs, including gannets, puffins, guillemots, razorbills, fulmars and kittiwakes. Five safe viewing areas are situated along 3 miles of chalk cliffs - many just two minutes walk from the visitor centre and car park. A great day out for families!

Scarborough Safe beaches and many attractions, including the surrounding Yorkshire countryside.  Sea Life Centre is one of the main attractions. The ruined Norman castle on the headland stands 150 feet above the harbour; it is open to visitors and provides splendid views over the bay.

Robin Hood's Bay Situated in the dramatic and rugged scenery of the North Yorkshire coastline is probably one of the most picturesque fishing villages in the country. The village is set amongst a network of steeply sloping streets, steps and alleyways and retains a strong historic link with the sea, reminiscent of days gone by with fishermen in small boats and smugglers dodging the excise men.

Whitby Maritime town, fishing port and seafarer’s haven, unspoilt, bursting with character and quite unique. Visit Whitby Abbey, Captain Cook Memorial Museum, from Whitby you can explore the North Yorkshire Moors / Dales and have a ride on the steam railway.

WEST OF BRIDLINGTON
